Principal's Corner

Welcome

Welcome to Palmer Elementary 2018-2019

Hello, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and discuss some of the procedures that will take place this year at Palmer Elementary. l, Alisa Boyd, have been in education for the past 15 years. I have taught third grade for six of those years and sixth through eighth math for the remainder until recently acquiring the position as principal of Palmer Elementary. I acquired my master's degree from Tennessee Technological University. We are very excited to work with your child this year. Palmer Elementary will strive to meet the academ ic and social needs of each child at our school.

Palmer Elementary cafeteria will open the doors at 7:15 a.m. Please do not drop children off before this time as they will not be able to enter the building. Students may enter the main building starting at 7:45. If you are coming to the school at any time during school hours, you must report to the office first to receive a visitor's pass and check in with Ms. Pam. When students arrive after 8:00 a.m., they are considered tardy, therefore the parent/guardian must come in with the student and sign them in for the day. School dismisses at 3:00 p.m., therefore all students must stay in the building until they are instructed to dismiss to designated locations. If you pick your child up before the end of the instructional day, you must sign your child out in the main office, and they will be counted as leave early.

Three tardies and/or leave earlies count as a whole day's absence, and these can accumulate quickly. Please be mindful of the attendance policy listed in the student handbook.

It is very important that you report any change of address and phone numbers to the main office for updating. The phone number on file is used to keep you informed of upcoming events and school cancellations.

Parking lot dismissal at Palmer Elementary will consist of three lanes. Lane one will be the farthest from the building and will be the first to leave after students have been loaded. The lanes will go up the hill and curve toward the lunchroom stopping at the orange cones until all students have been loaded and cars released. Lanes will be dismissed by the designated workers only. No car is to move until their lane has been released by the person in charge. Safety will be our main focus. If you are in a lane, we ask that you DO NOT SWITCH lanes as this could cause a wreck or injury of a child. If at any time you are found not to be following the safety rules of the parking lot, your tag will be recorded and turned into the sheriff's dept. for citation. No parking is allowed on the left side of the road around the fire hydrant. Your child will not be allowed to cross the road as lanes will be moving. If you choose to park in the cafeteria parking lot you must walk to the front of the cafeteria to have your child released to you.

Thank you for allowing us to be a significant part of your child's life.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Boyd
